Martin Kälberer

Germany

The creation of into the light, the new album by multi-instrumentalist Martin Kälberer, began in late 2024 after a concert with visual artist Gene Aichner, when the two discussed the magic of the moment and the renewed fascination with analog recording techniques. Inspired by this exchange, Kälberer decided to experiment with the challenging “direct cut” process – an analog recording method without any post-production, where the music is cut directly onto a lacquer disc in real time, in a single take. Supported by sound engineer Thorsten Scheffner at Organic Music Studio in Obing, the project was brought to life on “Piano Day 2025” and streamed live online. Using a Fender Rhodes piano, synthesizers, sequencers, and a loop station, Kälberer created two remarkable pieces: the title track into the light, a sonic journey from darkness into light, and elektra, a tribute to the “Elektra Tonquartier” at Munich’s Kunstkraftwerk BERGSON.

On into the light, the recording exists exactly as it was performed — unaltered, unedited, and pressed onto exclusive vinyl — a statement of pure musical immediacy. Available in stores from November 21.
