The Jazzchor Freiburg was founded in 1990 by Bertrand Gröger. Tours and concerts in China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg, Hungary, Switzerland, and Denmark, successful participation in competitions (including 1st prize at the German Choir Competition in 1998 and 1st prize at the Choir Olympics in Korea in 2002), CD productions ("Schwing", "A Cappella", "Hammenoma", "Live in Japan"), as well as radio and television broadcasts have made the choir known both nationally and internationally.
With its new album "Sacred", the Jazzchor Freiburg invites listeners on an extraordinary musical journey of discovery. Far removed from conventional categories, a world unfolds in which contemporary a cappella singing, jazzy harmonies, and subtle sonic nuances merge. The award-winning choir once again demonstrates its stylistic range, creative innovation, and emotional depth.
"Sacred" not only means "holy" in the literal sense, but here it also refers to that which moves, touches, and connects people. The album’s repertoire explores moments of fulfillment, doubt, wonder, and inner expansiveness—without being bound by religious or denominational limits. In times of searching for meaning and orientation, the choir creates sonic spaces that encompass both meditative depth and joyful lightness.
