Pippo Pollina, the Sicilian singer-songwriter living in Switzerland, is an avowed pacifist. A former conscientious objector, he has used his music in the past to denounce the abuse of power and promote humanity and peace. Now, at a time when war is once again part of our daily lives, at least in the news, the successful singer-songwriter has dedicated an entire album to the subject with Fra guerra e pace (Between War and Peace). "War is a dimension from which humans have never really detached themselves. It is a place where destruction and annihilation are linked to other events in life. With love, births, hunger, or thirst," writes the artist in the booklet's foreword. And so, with this album, diverse in both sound and content, Pippo Pollina takes us to the people and fills what we hear every day in the news with life. We encounter fear, pain, and grief, and at the same time confidence, love, and poetry.
Acoustically, the diversity of this album is striking. The pieces captivate with their instrumental richness, creating a powerful, harmonious whole, while at times repeatedly bringing solos to the fore in a concise, almost proud manner. Much of this is not chosen at random, but also fits in thematically — such as the oud, the Arabic lute in Free Palestina. One might think that this diversity is an involuntary appeal for peace. Fra guerra e pace is a political statement, a poetic warning, and also a glimmer of hope in turbulent times. It tells of historical and contemporary war events and what they do to people. Pippo Pollina dedicates it "to the innocents who die under the bombs that fall from the skies of this world." The album will be released on December 5, 2025. Starting in January 2026, Pippo Pollina will be on tour in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
