About Pippo PollinaThe musical history of Pippo Pollina began in 1979 in Palermo as he studied classical guitar secondary to his studies in law and music theory. During that time the foundation of the cultural group „Agricantus“ took place which was influenced by Latin-American and south Italian music. During the years from 1979 till 1985 Agricantus did countless concerts and courses in schools in the inland as well as overseas. Important for Pippo Pollinas development of personality was the incive experience as journalist fort the newspaper „I Siciliani“ whose chief editor Guiseppe Fava was murdered in 1984 because of his innovative and courageous reports about the connections between the mafia and politics. In a climate of suppression, corruption and the missing hope for changes during the 80es but also influenced by the desire of adventures and the unknown Pippo Pollina decided to break off his studies in 1985 and to leave Italy. Years of travelling through Western and Eastern Europe followed - everywhere where it was possible to tell stories and to collect new ones. Since 1988 Pippo Pollina can be seen with his first solo program on German-speaking stages. 1989 he won the Swiss radio prize of DRS1 and introduced his album „Nuovi giorni di settembre“ (Zytglogge, 1991) in 1991also in Scandinavia and numerous festivals in Switzerland. In 1992 he met the German songwriter Konstantin Wecker together with him he wrote different songs in German and Italain. In 1995 he did an extended tour with „Dodici lettere d´amore“ which took him even to Egypt. 1996 he received an award by the city of Zurich and only a half year later he released „Il Giorno del falco“ and his first book which was also the reason in his homeland Italy. In the meantime Pippo recorded several albums like the legendary Inti Illimani “Versi per la libertà“ that was rated very positive by the critics. The following releases were „Racconti Brevi“, „Bar Casablanca“ and „Rossocuore“. His latest masterpiece „Racconti E Canzoni“ which was released in January 2007 as double Cd (Cd & Dvd) is available in specialized shops. The songs of Pippo represent a great combination of Mediterranean swing and ethnical sounds without loosing their intimacy and their characteristic harmonic melody. The powerful singing and the enormous stage presence of Pippo Pollina combined with his typical stories fill an evening with Italian music and motivate the listeners to think, but also animate to dance, to enjoy and to dream.
Pippo Pollinas musikalische Geschichte begann 1979 in Palermo als er neben seinem Studium der Jurisprudenz auch gleichzeitig klassische Gitarre und Musiktheorie studierte. Für die Entwicklung seiner Persönlichkeit bedeutend, ist Pippo Pollinas prägnante Erfahrung als Journalist bei der Zeitung „I Siciliani“, deren Chefredakteur Guiseppe Fava 1984 wegen seiner innovativen und mutigen Reportagen über die Verbindungen zwischen Mafia und Politik ermordet wurde. In einem Klima der Unterdrückung und Korruption, und weil es in den 80er Jahren keinerlei Aussichten auf Veränderungen gab, aber auch aus großer Lust auf Abenteuer und Unbekanntes, entschied sich Pippo Pollina 1985 sein Studium abzubrechen und Italien verlassen. Es folgten Jahre der Wanderschaft durch West- und Osteuropa - überall dorthin, wo es möglich war Geschichten zu erzählen und neue zu sammeln. Die Lieder von Pippo werden vom mediterranen Swing gekleidet und in ethnische Klänge eingebettet ohne ihre Intimität und ihre charakteristisch harmonische Melodie zu verlieren. Der starke Gesang und die große Bühnenpräsenz von Pippo Pollina, gepaart mit seinen typischen Geschichten und Anekdoten, füllen einen Abend mit italienischer Musik und werden das Publikum zum Nachdenken anregen, laden aber auch zum Tanzen, zum Genießen, als auch zum Träumen ein. |
