About Lisa DobyFor Rhythm & Blues you need emotional profundity and experience of life, for Rock you need attitude and power and for Soul you need empathy and spirit. Lisa Doby connects all these qualities and that makes her and her music so authentic. Her sensational debut album "Free 2 Be", which was released in 2006 on Jazzhaus Records and has already sold 5.000 copies in France - shows all these facets: The opener "Glad" is a soul-pearl, which has nothing in common with the slushy and romantic sterotyping MTVIVA songs. This wonderful song breathes, pulsates and deals with true life. The trendy single "Where R U?" is based on a smooth tribal-rhythm. This single is characterized by its rocky guitar solos and it is often and willingly used by radio stations like SWR 3. On the entirely untrashy ballad "If Only" as well as on the easy acoustic-guitar-rocker "Anything" the instrumentation was skimped consciously whereby Lisa's sentimental voice almost shines like a star. The classystyle of Lisa Doby and her band is also shown by the very original Beatles cover version "Eleanor Rigby" which spreads out a Shirley-Bassey flair. In that form the song has got the right stuff for a James Bond theme song! Lisa Doby comes from Colombia, South Carolina. She already was enthusiastic about music when she was a little child. Therefore during her school time she already played trumpet, violin, chorused in a gospel on the one hand and sang also in jazz bands on the other hand. While Lisa studied on the Wake Forest University, she joined the a-capella-band Nishati. Thereby her amazing voice finally was discovered and she started to perform solo. Her huge talent got about very fast and the total of attendance has incresed continually. During her semester in France she finally made the breakthrough: In the Lionel Hampton Jazz Club in Paris she was discovered by Patricia Kaas who engaged her as her backround singer immediately. Although Lisa could gather inestimable experiences, she always preferred to compose and sing her own songs so that she compiled her own band after an extensive world tour. Lisa Doby almost corrupts on stage due to her extraordinary charisma and authenticity. In association with her enormous diverse sound between R&B, rock, soul, jazz and funk every show is going to be an unforgetable event. So she already has left a permanent impression among other shows in Montreux, on the Bonneville Rhythm'n Blues Festival as well as on the Poschiavo Music Festival. She has shined next to world stars like Ray Charles, Lucky Peterson or Paul Young, who entrusted her the opening of their concerts or just sang side by side. Lisa was touring together with Bernard Allison and John Lee Hooker Jr. but she is also touring with her own band, playing in middle-sized venues. "The voice is the truest and richest instrument - allowing complete musical freedom." (Lisa Doby)
